Jessica Aguilar has torn her ACL and has been forced to pull out of her strawweight clash against Juliana Lima at UFC 197.
The former World Series of Fighting champion recently revealed the injury on her Facebook page. The UFC has not formally announced the injury, and it is currently unknown if the company will be able to find a replacement opponent for Lima at the April 23 event.
“I'm disappointed to announce that unfortunately I have had to withdraw from my upcoming fight with Juliana Lima at UFC 197 due to an injury sustained during training. I tore my ACL and will be undergoing surgery this upcoming Tuesday to repair the injury and start the road to recovery,” Aguilar wrote. “I have a great doctor and team around me; I'm confident that with their expertise, love and support, along with my determination to make a full recovery as fast as possible, I will be back in the Octagon before you know it. I'm focused on getting healthy and becoming the UFC champion.”
Aguilar, 33, made her UFC debut last August, dropping a unanimous decision to current 115-pound No. 1 contender Claudia Gadelha at UFC 190. That defeat ended a 10-fight winning streak for the American Top Team product.
UFC 197 takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and is headlined by a light heavyweight championship rematch between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones.
