Former Glory middleweight champion Simon Marcus will return to the ring in the co-headlining slot of Glory 34, the company announced late Monday night. “The One” will oppose Dustin Jacoby over three rounds to round out the main card.
Marcus (44-3-2, 24 KOs) lost his title to Jason Wilnis at Glory 33 last month, marking the first time the Canadian has ever lost inside the Glory ring.
Jacoby (9-7, 7 KOs) hasn’t fought since May, where he dropped a unanimous decision to Marcus at Glory 30. After struggling mightily for the promotion -- Jacoby lost five straight bouts inside the Glory ring -- the Coloradan turned things around by winning his next five, all by knockout. His impressive streak catapulted him into a title fight with Marcus and now it’s his turn to try and turn things around again.
Nieky Holzken (89-11, 46 KOs) will defend his crown against fellow Dutchman Murthel Groenhart in the main event of Glory 34: Denver, which goes down on Oct. 21 at 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colo., just outside Denver. The two have met twice previously with “The Natural” coming out on top both time as Holzken edged his foe by the thinnest of margins on both occasions.
Also slated for the event will be a four-man same-night Middleweight Contender Tournament featuring Israel Adesanya (63-3, 27 KOs), Alex Pereira (20-4, 11 KOs), Robert Thomas (8-4, 5 KOs) and Yousri Belgaroui (19-2, 10 KOs) will round out the Glory 34 main card.
The original Glory 34 main event between newly-crowned featherweight champion Gabriel Varga (28-3, 8 KOs) as he makes his first defense against former lightweight champ Robin Van Roosmalen (35-7, 19 KOs) will now serve as the headliner of the Glory 34 SuperFight Series undercard.
