Amokrane Sabet, a onetime MMA fighter, was shot to death by Indonesian police on Sunday after fatally stabbing an officer.
Sabet was supposed to be arrested due to mounting complaints over his erratic behavior toward business owners in the coastal village of Canggu, where he had lived for approximately two years. However, when police arrived at his home, Sabet produced a knife and stabbed to death 39-year-old officer Anak Agung Putu Sud
Bali Police Chief Inspector General Sugeng Priyanto told local media that warning shots were fired and ignored before officers were ultimately forced to shoot Sabet. Approximately 15 shots can be heard in disturbing videos of the incident posted to YouTube on Monday by the account erickney88.
Priyanto said that Sabet was known to local business owners and that “he would often make trouble, not paying at restaurants and saying to people, ‘I kill you, f--k you,’ and other rude words.” Last month, a local newspaper in Bali ran multiple articles about Sabet’s behavior and noted that the former fighter had been threatened with deportation.
Prior to living in Indonesia, Sabet competed in at least four documented MMA bouts in England, including three for the Ultimate Challenge MMA organization. His professional record stood at 1-3, with two losses by way of submission and one via knockout.
