Chicago Bulls star Jimmy Butler was taken off the court in a wheelchair after a hard fall Friday night at Denver.
Butler was fouled near the basket by the Nuggets' Joffrey Lauvergne and fell awkwardly with 1:06 remaining in the second quarter. He was examined by medical personnel before getting to his feet and gingerly making his way to the foul line, where he made one of the two free throws before being helped into a wheelchair and taken to the locker room. He had 19 points in less than two quarters.
The Bulls announced Butler suffered a sprained left ankle and would not return. He had returned to action for the Denver game after missing Wednesday's game at Sacramento, the first game he has missed this season, with left knee tendinitis. He suffered the injury Monday at Utah when he banged his knee in a collision.
