Seahawks general manager John Schneider appeared on a Seattle radio show on Friday and said that he's under the impression that running back Marshawn Lynch is leaning toward retirement. Lynch has been with the Seahawks since 2010 and has been a key cog in the offense ever since.
Lynch signed a two-year contract extension worth $24 million before the 2015 started, however the veteran missed several games due to sports hernia surgery. He returned for the Seahawks' NFC divisional playoff loss to the Carolina Panthers last Sunday.
Pro Football Talk reported that if Lynch chooses to retire, he'll owe the team $5 million in signing-bonus money.
Lynch has 9,112 career rushing yards with 74 touchdowns. He's also added almost 2,000 career receiving yards with another 9 TDs. He's a main reason why the Seahawks made back-to-back Super Bowl appearances in 2013 and 2014 with one victory.
